Making art as creating something that could be already found in ourselves, going beyond the technique limits. Ventitre01 asked Charaka Simoncelli about her artworks and the path she is following.
Come definirebbe il suo percorso artistico?
Considero il mio percorso artistico una scuola di vita, orientata al fine di rendere appagante sia la mia esistenza sia la mia arte. Riconosco in esso uno specchio del mio viaggio di ricerca interiore, che prosegue lungo l’esplorazione dei confini che limitano la creatività.
Come è possibile descrivere il panorama artistico attuale? La pluralità di forme e la commistione di linguaggi rappresentano un aspetto da valorizzare o un elemento disturbante nella definizione della propria identità artistica?
Definisco il panorama artistico come la possibilità di essere stimolati, incuriositi, stupiti, disgustati, insomma una grande opportunità per ampliare la creatività. Non trovo disturbante la diversità dei linguaggi, anzi è importante e positivo che sia così vasto, è un’enorme opportunità per trovare la propria individualità e identità, attraverso confronto con gli altri.
Il progetto, l’idea, vengono prima dell’opera o si sviluppano intorno ad essa?
Il progetto di ogni collezione pittorica lo stabilisco prima. All’idea segue la realizzazione.
Qual è la sua visione del mercato dell’arte? Considera importante conoscerne le dinamiche?
Non mi occupo molto delle dinamiche del mercato dell’arte. Ritengo che in Italia, a differenza dal resto mondo, tale mercato sia chiuso, formato da circuiti di artisti “consolidati”. Personalmente non ho ancora capito come sia possibile diventarlo, mi rimane poco tempo per indagare.
Qual è il suo rapporto con il pubblico?
Mi capita di realizzare opere su commissione che sono chiaramente concepite con la richiesta del cliente, ma il mio lavoro artistico nasce sempre da un progetto libero da ogni riflessione riguardo al pubblico e a cosa sarebbe meglio fare.
Come sviluppa il suo lavoro?
Lavoro a serie di collezioni, che continuano nel tempo, coesistono, sono lavori che nascono da progetti diversi anche se il tema rimane sempre lo stesso, ma di volta in volta lo racconto con opere tecnicamente e visivamente diverse.
Quali tecniche ritiene di maggior interesse?
Mi piace esplorare tutto ciò che non è già da considerarsi una tecnica tradizionale, sono attratta dalle mescolanze di linguaggi e dalle apparenti incompatibilità tecniche.
Quali artisti contemporanei apprezza e/o considera vicini alla propria ispirazione?
Tapies, Guccione.
Tecnologia, tecniche tradizionali, creatività, progettualità, importanza del soggetto. Come ha definito la propria cifra stilistica?
Il mio lavoro nasce dal mio viaggio di esplorazione nell’ambito della creatività, dal superamento di tutti i limiti inconsci che ne impedivano la libera espressione, e dall’ampio spazio dato alla progettualità.
How do you define your artistic path?
I think about my artistic path as a school of life, pointing to make satisfying both my existence and my art. I recognize in it a mirror of my inner personal searching, a road that goes on exploring the boundaries limiting creativity.
How it is possible to describe contemporary art’s horizon nowadays? Multiplicity of forms and a melting of languages can be seen as a valuable aspect or a confusing element throughout the definition process of the author’s artistic identity?
I define our contemporary art horizon a chance to be challenged, more curious, surprised, horrified, a great opportunity for enlarging the playground of creativity. I am not annoyed by the multiplicity of languages, I find it positive and important, a possibility to reach everyone’s individuality and identity through confrontation.
The project, the idea, come before the artwork or within it, as it is taking shape?
I always decide for the project before beginning each painting’s series. The making follows the idea.
What is your perspective on the art market? Do you think it is important to know precisely how it works?
I don’t get busy with art market’s trends so often. I think that in Italy, unlike what is peculiar of the rest of the world, this kind of market is a closed one, constituted by established artists. Personally I didn’t find how to become one of them, I have a little time to inquire about this process.
What is your relation with the potential public? How do you feel about the eye of the observer?
It happens to me to make commissioned artworks that have been clearly conceived along with the buyer’s request, but generally my paintings born for giving shape to projects that are free from any thought about the public and what would be better for me to do.
How do you develop your work?
I usually work on series of collections that go on to be developed during the time, coexisting. They have been created from different projects even if the subject remains the same, expressed through various artistic tools and techniques from time to time.
What kind of techniques are you most interested in?
I like exploring all that is not considered traditional among the art techniques. I feel attracted by the mix of languages and the apparent technical incompatibilities.
Who are the contemporary artists you consider the closest to your inspiration? Who are the ones you appreciate most?

New media, traditional techniques, creativity, designing, importance of the matter. How did you choose your stylistic matrix? How do you work on it?
My work originates itself from my inner journey to explore the creativity, from the overcoming of the unconscious limits that block its free expression and from the importance that I give to the project.
