Dobbiamo fare attenzione nell’accostarci all’arte contemporanea, perché oggi spesso qualsiasi intervento assume una connotazione commerciale.

When and how did your artistic path begin?

I began my artistic path in México City 35 years ago.

How it is possible to describe contemporary art’s horizon nowadays? Multiplicity of forms and a melting of languages can be seen as a valuable aspect or a confusing element throughout the definition process of the author’s artistic identity?

We have to be very careful with contemporary art today, as it has become a commercial issue.
Nevertheless this multiplicity of languages and all these new forms have opened new ways of expression. We have to be careful considering them too, trying not to impress ourselves. Good Art will always come first.

The project, the idea, come before the artwork or within it, as it is taking shape?

It is always hard to explain the creative magic, it comes from something that you see, that you love, that makes a mark on you. Then, when you start working on it , a deep relation seems to be established between the artwork and you. It doesn’t work otherwise.

What is your perspective on the art market? Do you think it is important to know precisely how it works?

Everything is related to the market belongs to the part I don’t like.

What is your relation with the potential public? How do you feel about the eye of the observer?

My relation with the public is very good. It enriches me, especially because so many times the observer sees or feels things that you never imagine. Reaching this kind of link is great when what you really want is to communicate.

What is your favorite artwork among the selected ones?

I don’t have any favorite work, each work is different, and I learn many things from each one.

What kind of techniques are you most interested in?

I’m interested in working with paper, combining it with wood and natural material that I find like barks or seedcases. And steel. I love Nature.

Who are the contemporary artists you consider the closest to your inspiration? Who are the ones you appreciate most?

I appreciate the work of Brancusi, Anthony Caro, Julio González, Calder. Federico Silva, Angela Gurria.
