  Ventitre01 interviews HERO

Entrambi I processi funzionano, per me.

H.: My work can be characterized as a combination of pop art, comic art, with oriental influences. Recurring themes are that of nature, animals, and generally very organic shapes.

When and how did your artistic path begin?

I’ve been drawing since I was very young, but I picked up painting in 2009, initially with oils, and later on, as my style evolved, with acrylics.

How it is possible to describe contemporary art’s horizon nowadays? Multiplicity of forms and a melting of languages can be seen as a valuable aspect or a confusing element throughout the definition process of the author’s artistic identity?

The variety of art forms and the difficulty in defining them is a sign of our modern times and identity, of how we perceive ourselves, especially in a highly individualistic society. I myself tap into my personal experience and feelings in my artistic expression. It is very personal in its inspiration, but at the same time, once on canvas, it becomes public and therefore open to different interpretation.

The project, the idea, come before the artwork or within it, as it is taking shape?

Both work for me. I’m constantly sketching and I’m inspired by what’s around me. As I start developing shapes for a new painting, I infuse it with the sentiment I wish to project at that given time.

What is your perspective on the art market? Do you think it is important to know precisely how it works?

As an artist it is important to know how the art market works and how to navigate it, especially to find what the entry points are for emerging artists and what traps it is better to avoid falling into. It is also useful to know how to price oneself. At the same time, the fine details of art marketing and sales are - and should be - handled by experts who value the artist and their work.

What is your relation with the potential public? How do you feel about the eye of the observer?

I’m very keen in knowing the observer’s interpretation of my work, at the same time I’m extremely introverted (a reason why I decide to express myself visually rather than verbally) and therefore it is often hard to promote and market myself, so I prefer the work to speak for itself.

What is your favorite artwork among the selected ones?

Agape is my favorite of the selected works.

What kind of techniques are you most interested in?

Right now I’m shifting towards working on paintings that can be viewed from different perspectives, either flipped upside-down or in different directions. I’m also working with 3D materials.

Who are the contemporary artists you consider the closest to your inspiration? Who are the ones you appreciate most?

Closed to my style are artists like Keith Haring, while as a woman I am inspired by the strength of female artists such as Artemisia Gentileschi and Tamara de Lempicka, as well as artists who expressed their most intimate emotions outwardly like Frida Kahlo.
