Valda Bailey
Valda Bailey è un’artista fotografa inglese, cresciuta sull’isola di Jersey.
Le vedute costiere e i paesaggi che ritrae nei suoi lavori fanno parte dell’immaginario dal quale si origina l’ispirazione per la caratteristica, poetica astrazione che caratterizza le sue immagini, fuse in una dorata, ventosa sfocatura.
La sua tecnica fotografica si è sviluppata attraverso la conoscenza e la pratica con fotografi professionisti, in particolare Jay Maisel, con il quale ha potuto approfondire la sua ricerca stilistica durante un periodo negli Stati Uniti.
In seguito all’interiorizzazione dell’esperienza raccolta l’approccio personale della Bailey si è orientato verso una crescente astrazione, oltre i limiti imposti dal medium stesso, spingendo, estraendo energia attraverso il disegno delle linee, dei contorni dell’oggetto rappresentato.
Le immagini vengono realizzate attraverso l’uso della macchina fotografica, senza l’ausilio del software. La tecnica usata prevede il movimento reale per raggiungere l’obiettivo, muovendo la macchina durante l’esposizione, lavorando con l’otturatore o le impressioni multiple. Profondità e molteplicità di livelli di luce e velature cromatiche sono il risultato della tecnica sviluppata per catturare l’idea dell’oggetto, l’impressione tattile nella mente.
Valda Bailey is a professional english artist photographer grown up on the island of Jersey.
Coastal views are involved within her inspiration as well as the landscapes she portraits in her works, melted in a golden, windy blur that characterizes the poetic abstraction present in all her artworks.
Having always been tutored by talented professionals, she completed her photographic training in the US with Jay Maisel, who influenced her personal way to approach work.
An approaching that becomes to be oriented to a growing abstraction, beyond the limits and the peculiar characteristics of photography itself, pushing and pulling out energy trough the drawing of the force lines and the contours of the objects.
Images are reached only by using the camera, not a software. The technique employs real movements to achieve this aim, moving the camera during the exposure or working with a slow shutter speed or multiple images. Depth and multiplicity of level of lights and chromatic veils develop themselves to capture the idea of the object, its tactile impression in the mind.
